More incredible gaming developments!

The people over at Moject are doing some really impressive things over on the other side of the pond… IMHO gaming modes displaying this type of technology are going to hit main stream in the near future.

I can’t wait to get my hands on this little thing for my son ( don’t tell my wife but it is more for me… ;))

The system uses an AAXA L1v2 + an iPOD touch + a proprietary computing devise…

Optoma EP729 Micro Portable DLP Digital Projector

We discovered a sneak peak at Optoma’s new micro projector.  It’s touted to be 1600lumens at 1024×768 resolution.  This micro projector comes in at 2.2lbs and uses P-VIP bulbs.

Some specs for this micro projector supplied by Optoma are:

  • Display: DLP projector
  • Form Factor: Portable
  • Display Color Support: 24-bit (16.7 million colors)
  • Minimum Image Size: 2.6 feet
  • Maximum Image Size: 25 feet
  • Minimum Screen Distance: 4 feet
  • Maximum Screen Distance: 33 feet
  • Display Resolution Maximum: 1024 x 768
  • Image Brightness: 1600 ANSI lumens
  • Lamp: P-VIP
  • Audio Output Type: None
  • Width: 2.46 inches
  • Height: 6.0 inches
  • Weight: 2.2 pounds

Unfortunately this is not a LED projector so the bulb will not last 20,000 hours and will need to be changed periodically.

AAXA M1 goes Xtreme?

There’s been some buzz on the net that AAXA is about to release another revision to their M1-series micro projectors.  The AAXA M1 micro projector has been a successful product line being used in various professional installations and featured in various articles.

The M1 Ultimate micro projector showed the world that AAXA does listen to their customers’ suggestion in producing a projector that not only performed but was also stylish and durable at the same time.  When we reviewed the M1 Plus, we felt it did the job and was fairly simple to use.  We are looking forward to having the opportunity to review the M1X.

The M1X micro projector won’t be a huge revision.  It will feature all of the core features of the M1 Ultimate micro projector like 75lumen optical engine, aluminum casing, touch controls, remote, VGA and speakers.  The main difference that we can deduce is that the M1X will feature 2GB SD Card instead of the 1GB onboard memory.

We are looking forward to receiving our evaluation model and writing our review on the M1X micro projector.

HandHeld gaming + Handheld Projectiors = a match made in HEAVEN!

Disney Research Pittsburgh Has invested huge in the development of a new gaming class. They call it: “MotionBeam: A Metaphor for Character Interaction with Handheld Projectors” It is a quite impressive system involving  motion controlled characters via apples gyroscope from their ipod, The projector can activate real objects via an infrared beam, and this is all while projected on the users wall/ceiling/tent or what ever the heck they decide to project on! (just watch the video…)  I could see this becoming very annoying on subway rides in the near future!

MotionBeam
The MotionBeam project explores the use of handheld projectors to interact and control projected characters. Physical movement of the projection device, much like a motion controller, is used to guide and interact with the character. This creates a unified interaction style where sensor input and projector output are tied together within a single device.

Micro Projector Boombox

For those of you who have a massive DVD collection and would like to take them on the go, the Freeview micro projector boombox may be the item for you. The manufacturer claims you can project up to a 75″ display with the built-in micro projector. This swiveling LED-powered micro projector also comes with an integrated DVB-T tuner just in case you want to catch up on your regular TV shows wherever you go. Other features include CD playback, an integrated FM radio, audio input and integrated speakers. This micro projector is rated “To-Go”

Smartphone pico projectors unlikely until 2013

Pico projector makers quelled rumors that the iphone 5 will have an onboard pico projector. The technology is not where it needs to be in terms of brightness, resolution and power consumption to be practical in a smart phone. Currently, Samsung and LG have smartphones on the market with pico projectors. The Samsung Beam is an Android based smartphone with a TI DLP projector capable of 6 lumens. The LG phone no longer shows the pico projector attachment on their product page.

Personally, I would rather have a separate brighter pico projector until the technology catches up. 6 lumens is not bright enough to be useful in anything other than complete darkness.
